CASE
HISTORY / CLINIC:
Patient with painless, distinctly palpable swelling in the left parotid gland
for many years. The swelling almost spans the entire gland. The mass is mobile. The
facial nerve is not affected.
FINDINGS:
Demonstration of a septated, well defined mass that appears hypodense in
the T2 image (left upper image). The mass also appears septated
and hyperdense in the T1 sequence (right upper image). The mass appears
highly hyperdense and well defined in the post-contrast T1-weighted axial and
coronal images (both images on the right). The septations
are no more clearly visible.
DIAGNOSIS:
Warthin's tumor (papillary cystadenoma lymphomatosum)
DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS:
Other benign tumors of the parotid gland, the pleomorphic
adenoma in particular.
