ANAMNESIS
/ SYMPTOMS:
A 70 year old patient suffers from recurrent swellings in the area of the right
submandibular gland for some years. He had no acute symptoms in the last months.
On palpation the gland seems to be hardened.
FINDINGS:
On the
sonogramm the parenchyma of
the right submandibular gland shows inhomogenous echogenic with hyper- and hypoechoic
shares. In the area of the glandīs hilum at the dorsal margin of the mylohyoid
muscle a hypoechoic
band is
visible that is caused highly probable by a stasis of saliva in the duct. The base
of the tongue and
the tonsillar
region are
without pathological findings.
DIAGNOSIS:
The patient suffers from chronic obstructive sialadenitis.
