ANAMNESIS
/ SYMPTOMS:
A 60 year old patient suffers from recurrent
swellings in the area of the left submandibular gland that sometimes persist
for some time. At the time of anamnesis he shows an acutely occurred and big
swelling.
FINDINGS:
The
left submandibular
gland is
compared to the one on the right side hypoechoic. Starting from the hilum of
the gland a hypoechoic
band runs
around the dorsal margin of the mylohyoid
muscle and
goes through the floor of the mouth ending at the mentum.The sublingual
gland and
the tonsillar
region are
without pathological findings.
DIAGNOSIS:
The
patient suffers from an acute sialadenitis of the submandibular
gland or
a stenosis of the Wharton´s
duct (submandibular duct).
