ANAMNESIS
/ SYMPTOMS:
A 53 year old patient who underwent radiochemotherapy 4 years ago because of
a nasopharyngeal carcinoma suffers from increasing dryness of the mouth.
FINDINGS:
The
left parotid
gland as
well as all other salivary glands are hypoechoic and softened in their structure.
The typical echo pattern of glandular parenchyma is not visible. The masseter
muscle and the ramus
of the mandible with
its distal signal extinction are clearly visualized.
DIAGNOSIS:
The
patient suffers from a radiation-induced
sialadenitis.
