ANAMNESIS
/ SYMPTOMS:
A 75 year old patient reports about a globus sensation in the region of the left
neck without difficulties in swallowing.
FINDINGS:
The
findings of the pharynx and larynx and its soft parts are normal. The left inferior
cornu of the thyroid cartilage is extraordinarily good visualizable. It is
surrounded by a hypoechoic
area that is located medial of the common
carotid artery. This area corresponds to the caudal part of the piriform
sinus at
its border on the oesophageal inlet.
DIAGNOSIS:
The patient
shows no pathological findings in the area of the piriform
sinus that
could explain the globus sensation.
