ANAMNESIS
/ SYMPTOMS:
The patient suffers from an extended carcinoma of the hypopharynx on the left
side.
FINDINGS:
In
the middle of the neck between common
carotid artery and internal
jugular vein a hypoechoic
tumour with stronger echo-reflecting parts and an altogether inhomogenous
echogenity is visible, which is on the sonogramm undefinable at its border to
the sternocleidomastoid
muscle. The tumour surrounds more than half of the wall of the internal jugular
vein and reaches the common carotid artery. Its extent counts at approximately
2 x 3 cm.
DIAGNOSIS:
The patient
is suspected of having a carcinomatosis
into the neck with a carcinoma of the hypopharynx as the underlying disease.
The tumour infiltrates the left-sided sternocleidomastoid
muscle and the internal
jugular vein.
