ANAMNESIS / SYMPTOMS:
The patient suffers from an extended carcinoma of the hypopharynx on the left side.

FINDINGS
:
In the middle of the neck between common carotid artery and internal jugular vein a hypoechoic tumour with stronger echo-reflecting parts and an altogether inhomogenous echogenity is visible, which is on the sonogramm undefinable at its border to the sternocleidomastoid muscle. The tumour surrounds more than half of the wall of the internal jugular vein and reaches the common carotid artery. Its extent counts at approximately 2 x 3 cm.

DIAGNOSIS:
The patient is suspected of having a carcinomatosis into the neck with a carcinoma of the hypopharynx as the underlying disease. The tumour infiltrates the left-sided sternocleidomastoid muscle and the internal jugular vein.
