ANAMNESIS
/ SYMPTOMS :
A patient with chronic lymphocytic leucemia (CLL) complains about a swelling
in the right supraclavicular region. It is very painful to the touch and slightly
reddened.
FINDINGS:
On
the right side of the neck above the common
carotid artery shows a diffusely bordered, inhomogenous echoic tumour,
which is not clearly definable from the surrounding tissue and is infiltrating
the sternocleidomastoid
muscle. Caudal to the tumour the thyroid
gland is
visible.
DIAGNOSIS:
The patient is suspected of having a cervical
abscess or an abscess formation of a lymphatic node with CLL as the underlying
disease.
