ANAMNESIS
/ SYMPTOMS:
A 33 year old patient complains about a big and very tender tumescence in the
left cervical region that occured 2 weeks before. Further he reports about nightly
shivering-fits. Although the patient receives oral antibiosis there is no improvement
of the symptoms.
FINDINGS:
On
the sonogramm is on a transverse plane a hypoechoic, partly
inhomogenous area with hardly definable borders visible. The surrounding
tissue is inhomogenous echoic as well, not clearly distinguishable from the tumour
and softened in its strucure. When compressed with the transducer there is movement
between the separate parts of the hypoechoic structure recognizable. Some vessels,
the submandibular
gland and the sternocleidomastoid
muscle are visualized.
DIAGNOSIS:
Abscess
of the neck with beginning phlegmon on the right side
