ANAMNESIS
/ SYMPTOMS:
A 74 year old patient suffers from a painful swelling in the right lateral cervical
area after undergoing chemotherapy because of carcinomatosis of a malignant melanoma.
On the right side of the neck a hard, rope-like structure is palpable.
FINDINGS:
On
the longitudinal image a hypoechoic
rope-like structure is visualizable lying on the sternocleidomastoid
muscle. It reaches up to the region
of the parotid gland. On the colour-encoded Doppler´s sonogramm no
blood flow is proovable.
DIAGNOSIS:
The patient is suspected of suffering from a thromobosis
of the external jugular vein caused by catheterization for the purpose of
applying chemotherapy because of carcinomatosis of a malignant melanoma. Further
a thrombosis of the retromandibular vein is diagnosed.
