CASE
HISTORY / CLINIC:
Patient having severe pains in the upper teeth for several days. Pains
radiate into the maxillary sinus. Incipient swelling of the left
cheek.
FINDINGS:
The contrast-enhanced CT
image of the visceral skeleton (upper left image) demonstrates a partially fluid-filled and
partially air-filled mass around
the angle of the jaw. A soft-tissue
component can also be seen ventrally.
The ventral bony margin is partially
not demonstrable in the bony window scan (upper right image).
The bony
window scan at a more inferior position (lower image) reveals
a retained
tooth.
DIAGNOSIS:
Infected retention cyst in the upper jaw.
DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS:
Cysts of a different origin
