CASE
HISTORY / CLINIC:
55-year-old patient with a very painful swelling in the floor of the left side
of the mouth and submandibular region for three days now. A yellowish secretion
is discharged from the sublingual papilla when gland is massaged. Pronounced
trismus.
FINDINGS:
The post contrast T1-weighted axial image (upper picture) depicts a considerable
enlargement, poor circumscription and hyperdensity of the right submandibular
gland. The excretory ducts partially enhance
poorly.
The post-contrast T1-weighted images also excently demonstrate the enlargement
and enhancement of the right submandibular gland (lower picture). Inflammatory
changes of the neighboring structures are also seen in this image.
DIAGNOSIS:
Sialadenitis
DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS:
Sialolithiasis.
