CASE
HISTORY / CLINIC:
Patient with recurring postprandial swelling of the right submandibular gland.
Swelling resolves after a massage of the gland. Complaint has been existing for
many years.
FINDINGS:
The fat saturation T2-weighted images (left image) of the floor of the mouth
demonstrates a pronounced
congestion of the excretory duct of the right submandibular gland. Demonstration
of signal
effacement (stone) at the ventral end.
The congested excretory duct appears dark while
the stone shows a signal
effacement in the T1-weighted image without contrast administration (upper
right image).
The congested excretory duct of the right submandibular gland shows a high
signal intensity (lower picture). The excretory duct of the left submandibular
gland appears comparatively subtle.
