CASE
HISTORY / CLINIC:
Patient with very painful swelling in the parotid gland.
Discharge of a yellowish secretion from
the left Stensen's duct upon massaging the gland. Very poor general condition,
no fieber.
FINDINGS:
The T2-weighted image (left) reveals an enlarged
and hyperdense left parotid gland. Some areas demonstrate a high hyperdensity, typical
of cystic dilitations of the duct system.
The parotid gland appears generally
enlarged and a bit hyperdense in the
fat saturation T2-weighted image after contrast administration.
Demonstration of a hyperdense central area in the superficial lobe due
to strong contrast-enhancement. Some small-sized
intra-parotid lymph nodes are also demonstrated.
DIAGNOSIS:
Sialadenitis
DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS:
Benign and malignant mass lesions of the parotid gland.
