CASE
HISTORY / CLINIC:
Patient with explosion trauma resulting from explosion
of bangers close to the right ear on
new year's eve.
Ear microscopy reveals perforation of the eardrum, partialy clear, partialy bloody
discharge from the right ear. Subjective feeling of considerable hearing impairment
and even hearing loss
on the right ear, spontaneous nystagmus to the left.
FINDINGS:
The tympanum of the right petrous bone is demonstrated with a partially
hypodense opacity. Demonstration of air
pockets around the vestibule and in the cochlear windings as
an indirect evidence of rupture of the oval window.
The air
pockets in the vestibule, behind the oval window and in the cochlea are
better seen in the cut-out enlargement.
DIAGNOSIS:
Rupture of the oval window
