HISTORY
/ CLINIC:
67 years old patient with total
aphasia and hemiplegia on the right
side.
FINDINGS:
Unenhanced
CCT (i.e.
without contrast administration).
Hypodense
appearance of the supply area of the left middle cerebral artery with
exception of the basal
ganglia.
Blurred
outline of the interface between gray and white matter on the left.
DIAGNOSE:
Subacute
infarction of the left middle cerebral artery (48-96h). Because the basal
ganglia are intact, the occlusion of the middle cerebral artery lies distal
after the branching of the lenticulostriate arteries.
