ANAMNESIS
/ SYMPTOMS:
A 27 year old patient underwent extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy (ESWL)
of a stone in the left submandibular gland.
FINDINGS:
Immediately
after the ESWL there are hyperechoic reflections visible.
The reflecting structures are arranged in a row and show irregular bordered surfaces.
The total extent of all structures counts 16,4 mm. They are located in the depth
behind the mylohyoid
muscle in
the hilar region of the submandibular
gland.
The parenchyma of the gland shows as softened in its structure.
DIAGNOSIS:
The
patientīs sonogramm shows a regular finding after fragmentation
of a sialolith by means of lithotripsy. The fragments are arranged in
a row in the glandīs duct and can now be removed by means of a basket extractor
or massage of the gland.
