ANAMNESIS
/ SYMPTOMS:
The patient reports about a relapsing tumescence in the area of the right parotid
gland. At the time of examination the gland is very tender and the patient complains
about a persistent pain.
FINDINGS:
Bordering
on the masseter
muscle and the lower
jaw bone is a hyperechoic reflection
with distal signal extinction visible. Its extent is approximately 8 mm.
Distal of it shows a big and almost echofree
share that continues into the hypoechoic
changed parotid gland.
DIAGNOSIS:
Acute
sialadenitis of the right parotid
gland with sialolithiasis as
the underlying disease. The stasis
of saliva in the parotid duct leads to its dilation.
