ANAMNESIS
/ SYMPTOMS:
A 44 year old patient suffers from a recurrent, postprandially occuring intumescence
in the area of the right parotid gland. At the time of anamnesis the gland is
swollen and painful on palpation.
FINDINGS:
On
the right posterior margin of the mandible is
on a transversal plane a highly
echoic reflection with
a recognizable distal signal enhancement visible. Medial of the reflection seems
to be a hypoechoic
band which
continues into the parenchyma of the parotid gland. The parenchyma of the parotid
gland itself
seems to be without pathological sonographic findings except for the hypoechoic
structure.
DIAGNOSIS:
The patient suffers from a small sialolith located
in the parotid duct and lying on the masseter
muscle that leads to a retention of saliva and a consecutive dilation of
the parotid
duct.
