ANAMNESIS
/ SYMPTOMS:
A 3 year old boy shows a bilateral, at some times painful swelling of the cheeks.
The swelling occurred for the third time within a year.
FINDINGS:
The parotid
gland is clearly enlarged and softened in its structure on both sides. The
parenchyma of both glands is inhomogenous echoic with diffusely spreaded hypo-
and hyperechoic shares. Altogether it is hypoechoic altered. The pathological
findings are limited to the parotid gland. The masseter
muscle, the lower
jaw bone and the sternocleidomastoid
muscle show
no pathological findings.
DIAGNOSIS:
The
patient is suspected of having a chronic recurent sialadenitis.
DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS:
In adults
as a differential diagnosis an auto-immune disease should be considered.
