ANAMNESIS
/ SYMPTOMS:
A 55 year old patient suffers from pain while ingesting food. On clinical examination
an exulcerated tumour of the oral diaphragm is found.
FINDINGS:
On
the sonogramm is in the anterior floor of the mouth a hypoechoic, diffusely
bordered area in
terms of a tumour with an extent of about 1 x 1 cm visible. Dorsal of the tumour
a hypoechoic
band that
reaches into the submandibular
gland is
visible. The tumour seems not to infiltrate the muscles of the oral
diaphragm.
An infiltration of the mandible cannot
be excluded by the means of a sonogramm.
DIAGNOSIS:
The patient
is suspected of having a T1
carcinoma of the floor of the mouth with
invasive growth. The tumour compresses the Wharton´s
duct of
the left submandibular gland which leads to a stasis of saliva in the duct.
