ANAMNESIS
/ SYMPTOMS:
A 38 year old patient who underwent resection and following radiochemotherapie
because of a carcinoma of the floor of the mouth on the right side two years
ago now complains about right sided pain of the right ventral part of the oral
diaphragm.
FINDINGS:
On
a cross section of the oral diaphragm the mandible,
the digastric
muscles and
the hypoechoic structures of the mylohyoid
muscles of
both sides are visualized. Lying on these structures the geniohyoid
muscle is
visible. On the right side a clearly hyperechoic
reflection with
streaky extensions and an unregular echo pattern is visible.
DIAGNOSIS:
The
patient is suspected of having a radiation-induced
ulcer of the right floor of the mouth. The hyperechoic reflections indicate
the border between tissue and air. On the left side this border between the
underside of the tongue and the floor of the mouth is visualized as a hypoechoic
reflection compared to the right side
