ANAMNESIS
/ SYMPTOMS:
A 37 year old patient suffers from recurrent postprandial occuring swellings
in the area of the left submandibular gland.
FINDINGS:
Starting
from the submandibular
gland and
running over the mylohyoid
muscle and
caudal of the tongue a
hypoechoic and well definable band is
visible that reaches with its ventral ending the anterior part of the oral diaphragm. A
stasis of saliva of undetermined origin in the Wharton´s
duct and
a hypoechoic changed submandibular
gland can
be seen.
DIAGNOSIS:
The patient is suspected of suffering from a stenosis
of the duct of
the submandibular gland.
DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS:
A
sialolith in the right Wharton´s duct that is located further ventral and
is not visualized on the sonogramm has to be considered.
