CASE HISTORY / CLINIC:
22-year-old patient with occasional sore throat and flow of pharyngeal mucous. Frequent episodes of cold.



FINDINGS:
The T2-weighted axial image of the nasopharynx (above) demonstrates a small, highly hyperintense mass in the middle of the nasopharyngeal space. This image also demonstrates a secondary finding of a polypoid swelling of the mucous membrane lining the right maxillary sinus that is also seen to a lesser extent on the left. This mass in the middle of the nasopharyngeal space
appears hypointense in the post contrast T1-weighted axial image (below).


DIAGNOSIS:
Thornwaldt cyst


DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS:
Other cysts
