CASE
HISTORY / CLINIC:
Patient fell from window from the 1st floor.
Acute hearing impairment on right ear. Ear microscopy reveals hematotympanum
without a tear in the eardrum. Lateralization to the right in Weber’s test.
Rinne's test is negative on the right, positive on the left.
FINDINGS:
The cells of the petrous bone that are normally air-filled partially demonstrate hypodense
opacity, indicating presence of blood.
Demonstration of a sharp line along the longitudinal axis of the petrous bone
typical of a longitudinal
fracture.
DIAGNOSIS:
Longitudinal fracture
DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS:
Vascular canals
